Family Camping Trip

Dan and I have been married for almost 10 years now and this is the first camping trip that we have gone on without anyone else. Every other attempt that I had made were complete failures because I always seemed to pick a weekend when everyone else was camping and we couldn't get a spot! So, this time I made reservations...what a concept!!!
We didn't want to go too far so we looked to see what options were close by. We decided to try out Antelope Island. I will preface this post with the fact that we've decided that we'll never go there again (we are definitely mountain campers) but we did learn a few things about it so if anyone else wants to attempt it, we have some tips for you!

We decided to first stop at the Hill Aerospace Museum in Roy, UT. We had never been before and said "why not?" Anne loved seeing all of the airplanes almost as much as Daddy!

Outside are a bunch of planes you can walk right up to and look at. They were all amazing!

Anne got in a little "Peek-ooo!" time as well. Then we went inside to see the exhibits. Of course Dan took a million pictures so I only picked out a few from this stop.

Then it was off to the "island"...Dan and I got in an island trip within our 10th year of marriage! Not the island we were planning on but getting pregnant kind of changed those plans for us! This is a photo from one of the trail heads. We didn't do any hikes because it was just way too hot! Just before this, we set up camp and then headed to Island Buffalo Grill for dinner. Dan got the buffalo burger, of course! Daddy and Anne took a little walk on the beach afterwards while Mommy stayed in the air conditioned building.

We then decided to drive around a ended up at the visitors center. Inside they have this cute little buffalo that was just Anne's size. She wanted to ride it.

Outside they have this nice one and Anne decided to pick its nose! She thought she was pretty funny!

A view of one of the other islands on the Great Salt Lake from our camp.

There were just too many bugs for us so we resorted to hanging out inside the tent for the rest of the night. It was hard to keep little Anne entertained from 7pm on but we tried.

She also tried various things to entertain herself! She loved being able to see the moon, stars, airplanes and she even pointed out a satellite to me!

We got an early start with site seeing the next day...while it was cooler! Here is proof that there are antelope on Antelope Island. They were reintroduced within the last 10 years.

But the most common animal you'll see there is the buffalo and there were plenty! All over the place!

This was my attempt at being creative with photography! I was trying to get the buffalo in focus as well as the "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear" but it didn't work!

Like I said, lots of buffalo! At one point we had to stop while they were crossing the road. We weren't about to get in their way...especially with all of the babies!

Our little baby was pretty tired on the second day! She is such a good sleeper...AT HOME! It was after midnight when she finally went to sleep and then I kept waking up to make sure she was OK and then we were all up by 7am. So, the sleeping part was not my favorite part of the trip even though I was comfy on the air mattress!

This is a picture of the causeway that gets you on and off the island. Not as exciting as the bridge that takes you to and from Prince Edward Island...but it was still fun for Anne to see all of the birds.

Out of all of the photos that both Dan and I took of a buffalo by itself, this ended up being my favorite because of the water and mountains in the background. I took what would have been an awesome photo of one staring right at me that was also a close up...but it was out of focus! I'm sure I won't hear the end of it from Dan! Ha, ha!

Our last shot of the day. I finally let Anne "ride" one of the buffalo. Once up there though, she was a little nervous. (And also a shot of my belly...we're at 24 weeks!)

Well at least you tried it once. I have to say, when I told Sam where you were camping his response was basically "ew" :) Guess they did scout camp there once and he wasn't impressed. But hey, the buffalo look cool
